Ira Tiffen is Vice President of Motion Picture Filters at Schneider Kreuznach. Since the late 1960’s, Ira has been creating many important filter effects for cinematography —most recently the popular Schneider True-Streak filters. His work has been recognized with a Scientific and Technical Award (Technical Achievement Award) from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as well as a Prime Time Emmy Award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He has been an Associate Member of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) since 1992 and has authored the “Camera Filters” chapter of the American Cinematographer Manual since 1988. In 2002, he was elected a Fellow of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). He continues today to develop new optical filters that help cinematographers tell their stories most effectively.
